Northern Brunswick County and the Leland area specifically have emerged as one of the fastest growing counties in America today.
In the face of this expansion, local leaders are working hard to ensure that area retains the family-friendly atmosphere that makes it such an appealing place to live. People are drawn to this area for the small town charm, laid-back atmosphere and great people.
Those who have lived in this area for generations can easily understand why an increasing number of people are choosing it as a place to retire and/or raise a family. The small towns and rural countryside offer Southern charm, old-fashioned hospitality, and a slower, more relaxed pace that is a welcome relief from the rat race. In addition, Northern Brunswick County and Leland offers a moderate year-round climate and a blossoming business community with opportunities for all.
Brunswick County and Leland's outstanding growth is expected to continue. According to the United States Census Bureau, the county saw its population jump 5.4% between July 2004 and July 2005 making it the second fastest-growing county in North Carolina and the 29 th fastest growing county in America . In addition, Brunswick saw an 11.5% increase in retail sales for the 12 months ending in May 2005, with total sales reaching $1.2 billion.
Much of the county's growth is taking place in the Leland area. The primary reason for this growth is the location and affordability it provides. Residents of this area are a mere five minutes from downtown Wilmington 's beautiful historical district and just a five minute drive from the imposing U.S.S. North Carolina Battleship Memorial. The popular tourist beaches of Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach are right at hand, and the peaceful Brunswick County beaches are only minutes away. Myrtle Beach , SC , long a southern coastal mecca, is no farther than a 45 minute trip from the northern end of the county.
Thanks to the temperate climate and championship golf courses, Northern Brunswick County is an ideal place for golfers. In fact, several national golf publications have rated Brunswick County one of the top places to play golf, and it is quite common to see area residents and visitors wearing short sleeves on a golf course in the middle of winter. These courses are drawing the Myrtle Beach golfers and visitors northward to our area.
One of the most challenging things about growth is being able to keep up with it. The initial surge of growth left several of the major roadways ill equipped to handle the load. However, recent road projects have been completed and many more are underway allowing the residents the ability to easily navigate their way to their final destinations.
Come let me show you what makes Leland so popular and why so many people want to be here as well.
